Yeovil District Hospital’s consultants and their teams are now holding regular clinics in a wide range of specialties in the brand new state-of-the-art facilities provided at South Petherton Hospital.
The Health and Wellbeing Centre at South Petherton is providing accommodation for outpatient clinics run by consultants, specialist nurses and therapists. X-ray and ultrasound investigations are also available.
Outpatient clinics and diagnostic services currently provided by Yeovil District Hospital NHS Foundation Trust at South Petherton include hearing tests, care of the elderly, skin problems, diabetes, general medical and surgical problems, orthopaedics, children’s services, sleep problems, ultrasound and X-ray. It is planned to expand the range of services over the next six months.
Specialist shoulder and elbow surgeon, Mr Andrew Chambler said: “I am delighted to be able to provide an enhanced service for my patients from South Petherton. The one-stop service is excellent – one of my patients has already benefitted from an eight week reduction in diagnostic and treatment time.”
Medical Director, Dr Jonathan Howes said: “South Petherton offers a number of benefits. Some specialties are able to provide a one-stop service for some patients cutting down the number of hospital visits needed and enabling speedier diagnosis and treatment. The clinics are airy and spacious and benefit from the latest equipment and, for many, we are moving care closer to home.
“In addition to outpatient services our consultants are working closely with local clinicians to support and develop the inpatient stroke rehabilitation service. The inpatient facilities provided at South Petherton for this are outstanding.”
The site is easily accessible from the A303 and there is plenty of free parking. Buses from Chard, Crewkerne and Ilminster stop and pick up from right outside the front door every two hours.
Patients can select South Petherton as their choice of location for their appointment through the national Choose and Book service which deals with all GP referrals.
