Most patients need to make their own travel arrangements to and from hospital, but we do offer an ambulance service for those who require it due to medical need. Examples of medical need are those patients who require medical assistance during their journey or those who need the help of ambulance staff with walking and getting in and out of the vehicle.
Your GP might arrange transport for you when you are referred for treatment at Yeovil District Hospital. However, unless you are either medically unfit to travel by any other means or have no other means of transport (i.e. driving yourself or being driven by family or friends, etc.), you will need to arrange this yourself.
If you find that you are not eligible for free hospital transport there are a number of alternative local transport providers who may be able to help - not only with your journey to and from hospital but also with other essential visits such as seeing your GP, optician etc.
Please contact our Patient Transport Co-ordinator on 01935 384477 for more details.
Make sure that you are ready to be picked up at least two hours before your appointment time because sometimes pick-ups need to be made much earlier than your booked time due to scheduling of picking up other passengers
Remember that other patients may be sharing the vehicle with you
Bring some money for refreshments in case hospital transport is delayed (especially if you are diabetic).
Please do not:
ask the driver to make other pick-ups or drop-offs in your journey
make alternative arrangements to take you to hospital without letting us know. Just call the Patient Transport Co-ordinator on 01935 384477 as the hospital will have to pay for all unnecessary journeys.
